WSOP Update 2

George and Pete after registering for the WSOP. 

After beginning Day 2 with a little north of $49k chips, George was able to build his stack during the early portion of the day. However, the cards turned against him after the first break and he busted just short of the money.

Although he didn't cash, what a great run in a tough tournament. Congratulations George!

WSOP Update

George and I both entered the same tournament (#39, Super Seniors). Although there are hundreds of tables spread across multiple rooms, we started at tables that were right next to each other.

I was moved to another table a couple hours into the tournament and later George was moved to another room.

After the dinner break (6 hours in), I was moved to another room and once again was seated at a table right next to George's.

What are the odds?

We both had around $40k late into the night. A lady to my right went all-in for $22k with A-9 and I called her with A-K. I was a big favorite, but the A-4-9 flop did me in and dropped my stack to $18k.

About 30 minutes later during the final level of the night, I pushed with A-Q and was called by the biggest stack at the table. He turned over 9-9. I lost the flip and was eliminated.

I haven't talked with George about any significant hands he played, but he did survive to play on Day 2, which is a huge accomplishment!

He has $49k chips and is currently in 466th place (just a few below actor James Woods). There are around 850 players left, but a lot of them are extremely short-stacked and should go out in short order. The tournament pays 398 players, with the minimum cash being $1500. First place is $360k.

2019-20 League Rules

The eighth season of our Vegas or Bust Poker League begins on May 10th. Below are the rules for our league.

1) Tournaments will be held the second Friday of each month and will begin at 7pm.

2) Tournaments will take place at George's home.

3) Beginning chip stacks will be $1500T

4) Blind levels will last 15 minutes. Blind levels are $10-20, 15-30, 20-40, 30-60, 40-80, 50-100, 75-150, 100-200, 150-300, 200-400, 300-600, 500-1000 (capped). This should make each tournament last 3-3 1/2 hours.

5) Point System. 1st-10 points, 2nd-9 pts, 3rd-8 pts, 4th-7 pts, 5th-6 pts, 6th-5 pts, 7th-4 pts, 8th-3 pts, 9th-2 pts, 10th- 1 pt.

6) If a player misses a tournament, he or she is still responsible for the entry fee for that month. The player will not be awarded any points for the missed tournament.

7) Players can be late for a tourney. However, late players must be seated at the tournament table before the third blind level ($20-40) ends or the player will not be able to join the tournament.

8) Each player's lowest two tournament scores will be dropped from his or her total at the end of the league. This allows each player to miss up to two tournaments without penalty.

9) A substitute player can play in up to two tournaments if the league player is unable to attend.

10) If a player is forced to withdraw from the league due to health issues, a replacement player will be picked by the remaining league players. If a suitable replacement cannot be located, the remaining players will increase their monthly buy-in to cover the difference. This is to keep the prize pool at $4,800.

11) The league will last 12 months, beginning in May 2019 and ending in April 2020.

12) Entry fee is $40 per tournament per player.

13) First and second place will both receive $2,400. Both players will be REQUIRED to enter one tournament at the 2019 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas ($1,000 minimum buy in). The prize money should cover round trip airfare, hotel, and entry fee. Player is responsible for any additional costs.

14) If either or both winning players cash in the WSOP Tournament they have entered, 50% of the prize money in the WSOP Tournament (after taxes) will go to the winning player and 50% will be divided between the remaining nine league players.

15) Pete will be responsible for the league's prize money.

16) If there is a tie between 2nd and 3rd place, the players have several options to settle the tie. The players can split the prize ($1,200 each), play a heads up tournament to determine a winner, or negotiate a deal. If players divide the prize, both players are still REQUIRED to enter a tournament in the 2019 WSOP in Las Vegas ($1,000 minimum buy in) and will be responsible for their own transportation, hotel and food. If a deal is negotiated, at least one of the players is REQUIRED to enter a tournament in the 2019 WSOP in Las Vegas ($1,000 minimum buy in) and will be responsible for their own transportation, hotel and food  If a heads up tournament is played, the blind levels and times will be the same as the full ring league tournaments.
